COVID-19 Test Centre opens in Letterkenny

A DRIVE-through test centre for coronavirus is now operating in the grounds of St Conal’s hospital in Letterkenny. The HSE has ramped up its testing efforts across the country with confirmation that there are up to five cases of the virus in Donegal.

The HSE would not confirm the locations of the test centres yesterday because they said some of the centres are not fully operational yet.

Cars could be seen pulling up to the test area in St Conal’s yesterday afternoon where they were met by medical professionals who were masked and wearing protective gowns to take swabs.

One person who had an appointment to attend was advised to come earlier than their appointment reportedly due to a number of no shows however another person attending described the test venue as poorly signposted and not easy to find.

Suspected COVID-19 cases are referred to these testing centres after a telephone conversation with your GP if you develop symptoms of the virus and are appointment only.

Last night the Department of Health announced there was 74 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland bringing the total of confirmed cases up to 366.

Donegal has five or less cases of the virus while Dublin has the highest, 129, followed by Cork, 48.

As of yesterday there were only three counties that did not have a confirmed COVID-19 case, Monaghan, Leitrim and Laois.
