A MAN who acted in an aggressive manner with Letterkenny hotel staff during Donegal rally weekend, and refused to leave the premises, has been ordered to make a contribution to charity.
Lettterkenny District Court on Monday heard how gardaí were called to the Radisson Blu Hotel on June 22, 2024 by staff who told them there was a man acting aggressively with them and would not leave the hotel.
Hubert Curley (18) of Camla, Taughmaconnell, Ballinasloe, Roscommon, was a non-resident of the hotel. He failed to comply with garda directions to leave the premises.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian told the court that his client was in town on the day in question to attend the Donegal rally. He said his friend had paid for a hotel room.
“He had nowhere to go, and his friend agreed he could stay with him in his hotel room, which was already paid for,” said Mr Dorrian.
Judge Éiteáin Cunningham rejected the argument put forward by Mr Dorrian, stating that staff need to be aware of how many people are staying in each room of a hotel due to fire safety regulations.
Sergeant Maurice Doyle told the court that Curley has not come to the attention of gardaí since.
Judge Cunningham directed Curley make a contribution of €250 to Saint Vincent de Paul by December 2, 2024.
If the contribution is not made by then, a default order will be made seeing Curley convicted and fined €350.
A Section 6 charge was taken into consideration.
Curley was not present in court.
