County Mayor furious at reaction to Montreal trip

THE MAYOR of Donegal has called for an end to ‘party political point scoring’ in the county. Councillor Noel McBride made his remarks as a furore broke out over the St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Traditionally, the Mayor and officials have travelled to New York but the trip has been dropped for the past two years. But this week Cllr McBride indicated he was considering going to Montreal, at his own expense, for the second biggest St Patrick’s Day parade in the world.
He has accused Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin members of trying to ‘score political points’ after they claimed he was trying to sanction the trip behind their backs.
