CONCERN was expressed in Lifford on Wednesday that the councillors’ failure to adopt Donegal County Council’s budget for 2012 would result in the Minister for Environment making the decision for them.
After some short negotiations behind closed doors, both Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein said they could not support a €148 million budget for next year which shows a reduction in spend of more than €5 million.
The proposed reductions were to include savings to be made in six out of eight directorates.
These reductions, the dissenting parties said, would affect the roll-out of essential services such as roads and housing.
