Councillor urges upgrade of Letterkenny bus stop

The bus stop in Letterkenny which needs to be upgraded, according to local councillors.

A ‘genuine effort’ should be made to enhance facilities at Letterkenny’s bus stop which a local councillor says is one of the busiest in the country.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan said that thousands of commuters gather at the stop outside Michael Murphy’s Sports every week but that as it stands, there was not even a seat for them to sit on.

He told last week’s meeting of Letterkenny Municipal District that the situation needed to be addressed and better facilities introduced for the travelling public.

“It is used by thousands of people on a weekly basis and people young and old come and go there. Yet there isn’t even a seat for them to sit on,” said Ciaran Brogan.

“There is a bit of a shelter but there is nothing for anyone with a disability and for a very small amount of money this council could make it far more attractive and user-friendly. For a small amount of money we could change the lives of people in this county.

“People are frustrated by this and I would be asking that a report be brought back outlining the cost because this is one of those things that is within our grasp,” added Cllr Brogan.

Seconding the motion, Cllr John O’Donnell said that for a small investment improvements could be made that would make all the difference coming into the colder weather.

Letterkenny Area Engineer Fergal Doherty said that the National Transport Authority had already been approached and that upgrades to the bus stop were being investigated.
