Donegal County Council has passed its budget for 2020 which has an extra €8.4 million to spend in the coming year. The revenue budget for 2020 is €154 million with a large chunk of the funding, €48 million, going towards roads.
Two amendments were adopted at the meeting in Lifford today. The first was proposed by Cathaoirleach Nicholas Crossan for funding of €5,000 to be allocated in each Municipal District for the Tidy Towns committees. The second proposal by Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher called for a town revitalisation scheme to combat vacant premises around the county offering incentives for new businesses to set up in properties that have been vacant for more than two years.
27 councillors voted in favour of the budget while two councillors voted against. They were Councillors Frank McBrearty and Micheal Cholm Giolla Easbuig.
Cllr McBrearty said he could not support the budget because of the 15 per cent increase in Local Property Tax which is set to bring in €26.78 million in revenue in 2020.
