A LOCAL councillor has expressed deep regret at a recommendation from the County Manager not buy the former Rockhill Barracks in Letterkenny.
Later this month Donegal County Council will this month receive a recommendation from the County Manager, Mr Seamus Neely that only Lifford Army Barracks be purchased at this time following a cost/benefit businesses analysis.
The news has been met with dismay and some anger by local public representatives in Letterkenny.
The Department of Defence has offered Rockhill Army Barracks and 25 acres of adjoining lands and the former Army Barracks in Lifford to Donegal County Council for a total of €1.2 million over six years.
The price for Rockhill is around €600,000.
Agreement was reached some time ago for the sale of both Lifford and Rockhill to Donegal County Council. The Department of Defence has been pressing the Council for completion of the transfer for some time.
