DONEGAL County Council has said their Severe Weather Assessment Team are monitoring developments following a Met Éireann warning about plummeting temperatures and possible snowfall in the days ahead.
“Met Éireann have issued a weather advisory for Ireland. Sunday through to Wednesday will be very cold with temperatures in low single figures during the day and with sharp or severe frosts and icy patches at night,” said a spokesperson for Donegal County Council.
“For Thursday there is the possibility of a weather warning for snow/ice being issued by Met Éireann. This will mean snow accumulations of between 5cm to 10cm with more on higher ground, starting early on Thursday morning.
“Members of the public are asked to make the necessary preparations in advance of this event and to ensure that essential household provisions, particularly for the elderly and vulnerable, are in place. Motorists are being asked to take extra care while driving during the heavy snowfall and to be mindful of the potential risk of frost and snow accumulations along the road network. It is expected that these conditions will remain in place up to and including next weekend.
“Donegal County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team are continuing to monitor the situation and will provide additional updates if conditions deteriorate further.”
