DONEGAL County Council has agreed to explore the possibility of making specially adapted wheelchairs available at more of its beaches, following representations from Falcarragh Councillor Michael McClafferty.
Narin is the latest location to receive a beach wheelchair, the sixth location in Donegal to get one.
Previously the chairs, which have wider wheels to allow them to move easily over sand, have been introduced at Marble Hill, Rathmullan, Carrickfinn, Rossnowlagh and Downings.
At a meeting in Lifford recently, Councillor McClafferty asked that beach wheelchairs also be made available at beaches at Ards, Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh.
“These locations are used by locals and tourists alike and going forward I feel we need to enhance the facilities we provide for those living with disabilities,” Councillor McClafferty said.
“That is why I am calling for these beach wheelchairs to be introduced and why I will be pushing for more wheelchair accessible buses in Donegal.”
