Council appeal to farmers over use of crow bangers

LOCAL farmers, who use crow bangers, have been urged to ensure they are not impacting on their neighbour’s sleep.

Taking to social media this week, Donegal County Council appealed to farmers who may be having problems with birds affecting crops or grain storage.

Many farmers use crow bangers to protect their crops. Crow bangers make loud detonations and therefore frighten away birds and any other animal that could damage a crop.

Farmers have been urged not to use them near residential buildings between sunset and sunrise and to use bales or barriers to screen the noise from houses.

It was also suggest farmers make the switch to electronic bird scarers. These are seen as a better alternative as they use distress and danger calls along with harassment sounds of predator birds causing the birds to relocate to a safer location.
