POLICING plans in the run up to the festive season were on the agenda during a meeting of council members and An Garda Síochána today.
Discussions focused on measures to support both the daytime and night-time economies at this crucial time of year for businesses.
Councillor Ciaran Brogan, Mayor of Letterkenny Milford Municipal District, described Letterkenny as the “driving force” of Donegal’s economy.
“Letterkenny is the driving force of Donegal’s economy with a wide array of retail, recreational and leisure offerings for shoppers and revellers alike at this time of year. An Gardai Síochána have indicated that they will again have two motorbikes and other resources on patrol in the town to assist with traffic flows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in what is traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year.”
Jimmy Stafford, President of Letterkenny Chamber, welcomed the meeting, commenting: “ We are pleased to see a good garda presence with high visibility patrols in Letterkenny. We expect this weekend in particular to be busy, and this resource allocation will help with traffic flows and will keep people safe during the festive period.”
