CÓR Ailigh, the acclaimed cór gaelach based at St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny, is marking its 25th anniversary with a special celebratory concert as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge.
The event takes place on Friday, March 6, at 8pm in the Regional Cultural Centre (RCC) Letterkenny.
This promises to be an enjoyable and moving evening, reflecting on the choir’s remarkable 25-year journey through a programme of songs they have performed over the years.
Under the musical direction of Anne Nicholls, Cór Ailigh is renowned for its warm sound, expressive performances, and deep commitment to promoting the Irish language through sacred and choral music.
The concert will feature traditional and contemporary choral works rooted in Irish heritage and culture.
The evening will also feature performances from the choir’s talented musicians including Bri Carr (keyboard), Aoife Crossan (whistle), Emma Ní Mhairtín (harp), Aisling Cheevers (fiddle), Pól Mac Giolla Easbaig (cello and uilleann pipes), and Michael Carey (whistle). Joining Cór Ailigh for this special Seachtain na Gaeilge event is Mokusla (Louise Rowland), the Irish visual artist and musician now based in Glasgow.
Cór Ailigh performs regularly in Irish at the 10am Mass on the first Sunday of every month at St Eunan’s Cathedral and is frequently invited to sing at special occasions throughout the region, including in Gaeltacht churches across Donegal. Their monthly Mass is often broadcast on Raidió na Gaeltachta, reaching listeners nationwide.
The choir has earned significant national and international recognition in recent years. In June 2024, they performed at Mass in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and in March 2025, they sang at a Mass in Donneybrook broadcast live on RTÉ.
The cór represented the Diocese of Raphoe at the National Novena to Our Lady of Knock in August 2025 where it provided the liturgical music.
As part of their anniversary celebrations, Cór Ailigh will travel to Glasgow in June 2026 (June Bank Holiday) to perform in St Andrew’s Cathedral.
Tickets for the March 6 concert are priced at €20 and available now on the RCC website: regionalculturalcentre.com or via the ticket booth link.
