A MAN smeared blood on a prison cell door after being arrested for his own safety, Letterkenny District Court heard this week.
Gardaí were on patrol on August 8, 2024 passing a junction in Drumkeen when they saw a person stagger out from the junction.
Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that Neil Peoples, (26), Drumkeen, Convoy, was very unsteady on his feet and had to be arrested for his own safety.
He was conveyed to Letterkenny Garda Station, where, the court was told, he smeared blood on the exterior of a prison cell door.
Peoples was charged with public order in Drumkeen on August 8, 2024 and smearing an exterior cell door in Letterkenny Garda Station with blood on the same date.
The court was told that Peoples was highly intoxicated on the night in question, and that he regrets his actions. He wrote a letter to gardaí apologising for what he had done.
Judge Ciaran Liddy directed Peoples make a contribution of €250 to Cara House by Monday, March 10.
