Construction of the Lifford-Castlefin Greenway is set to commence in the coming weeks.
The Council has now completed the tender process and procurement phase and has appointed ASC Civils Ltd to undertake the contract.
This news has been welcomed today by Sinn Féin Councillor Gary Doherty.
The proposed Greenway is a €3.6 million project which will connect the border two towns along the N15 National Primary Road.
Speaking today, Cllr Doherty, who is a Castlefin native said, “This is fantastic news for the residents of Castlefin, Lifford and all the surrounding areas. A Greenway linking the towns is something that I have been advocating since I first entered Donegal County Council in 2013.
“I am delighted that what was once a pipe-dream is becoming a reality. This project will make commuting between these two towns so much easier. Both towns have multiple links whether that is the GP Surgery, commerce or sporting links, and to now have the option of walking/cycling in safety between the towns is such a great boost to receive.”
