Concerns expressed again over lack of burial spaces in Letterkenny

A workshop is set to be held by Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council to discuss the possibility of establishing a new cemetery in the Letterkenny area.

At the November meeting of Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Council, Cllr. Ciaran Brogan proposed that they have a workshop to discuss the matter.

He pointed out that Conwal Graveyard is “filling up really fast” and he stressed the need to keep a focus on this matter.

Cllr. Donal Kelly seconded the motion, and commented that it is “scary” how quickly the graveyard is filling up.

The parish of Conwal and Leck is currently served by two graveyards, Conwal Cemetery, which dates from 1795, and New Leck Cemetery, located in the Oldtown area, which dates from 1978.

It was agreed that a workshop on the subject will be arranged on a suitable date for elected members of the local council.
