Concern as two Donegal services to relocate

CONCERN has been voiced after it has emerged two services in Donegal are to close their current locations and relocate to other parts of the county.

A public meeting will take place on Thursday over concerns the relocation of an education centre to Letterkenny will result in the loss of six jobs.

Donegal Education Support Centre, based in Donegal Town, is scheduled to close on March 31 following a decision by its management committee. One of the consequences of this decision is the loss of the jobs of six of its seven strong workforce.

Furthermore, the Health Service Executive has confirmed that the Buncrana Civil Registration Office located in the Primary Care Building, Maginn Avenue, Buncrana, will close with effect from March 20.

Following the closure, the nearest Civil Registration Office to Inishowen for births, deaths and marriages, will be Letterkenny, followed by Stranorlar, Sligo and Leitrim.

The closure of Donegal Education Centre, after 27 years has come as a great shock to the local community, teachers and schools from all over the county.
