Concern after discovery of heroin in Letterkenny search

A SENIOR garda has described the discovery of heroin during a drugs raid in Letterkenny on Friday night as ‘significant.’

Inspector Goretti Sheridan was speaking after €1,700 worth of the highly addictive drug, as well one kilo of cannabis resin with a street value of €20,000, were seized during a planned search of the Long Lane area of the town.

A man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s were arrested at the house and brought to Letterkenny Garda station where they were questioned under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

They were later charged with having the drugs for sale or supply, before being released on bail to appear at a sitting of Letterkenny District Court in March.

While admitting that it was a relatively small quantity, Inspector Sheridan said people should be concerned that such a highly dangerous drug is on sale in Letterkenny.

“The amount of heroin discovered may have been small, but it is significant for a town the size of Letterkenny. I would appeal to anyone who has concerns, or information, about the sale or use of drugs to contact us in confidence at Letterkenny Garda Station,” she said.

The station can be contacted on 074 91 67100 or via the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
