Companies link up to restore Glasgow bus link

DOHERTY’S Travel, McGinley Coach Travel and Bus Feda have announced their joint service between Donegal and Glasgow will resume, July 22.

This is the first time this service has operated in two and a half years as it was suspended as a result of Covid-19.

The service will operate as a straight-through journey, meaning the coach will board the ferry and continue to its destination with no change of vehicle in Larne.

The routes have convenient pick up locations with drop off at Buchanan Bus station in Glasgow city centre.

Unlike the airlines there are no baggage charges which proves popular with students. Passengers do not need any form of I.D to travel to and from Glasgow.

Speaking to the Donegal News, Brian O’ Donnell, a driver for Bus Feda said the bus will run four times a week.

“The bus will go to Glasgow on Tuesdays and Fridays with the return busses operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

“We are so happy this service is back up and running again after it being suspended for two and a half years due to the pandemic.

“Before the pandemic the service ran for around 50 years.

“The service was started to transport people to the Derry Boat which then transported people and animals to Glasgow,” he said.

James McGinley, from McGinley Coach Travel, said the Donegal to Glasgow cross channel coach is a very convienent service.

“The cross-channel coach service is the only direct connection from Glasgow to West Donegal without changing busses or moving bags.

“With the delays and chaos at the airports recently, it is a more convienent way to travel with no queues, no baggage charges, no taxes and no hidden fees. Just plain sailing,” he said.

Pre-booking essential and fares start at €85 each way.
