ST MICHAEL’S will begin the defence of their Donegal Comortas Peile na Gaeltacht title with a home tie against Ardara, with the draws for the 2014 finals having been made this week.
St Michael’s triumphed last year in Glencolmcille, with Charlie McLaughlin’s side defeating Naomh Columba in the final. Now under the stewardship of Tony Wilkinson, the Creeslough-Dunfanaghy outfit begin now by taking on Adrian Brennan’s Ardara at The Bridge.
There is a big tie in Magheragallon as the All-Ireland Senior Gaeltacht champions of 2013, Gaoth Dobhair, will play host to last year’s All-Ireland Junior kingpins, Fanad Gaels in what will be Kevin Cassidy’s first game as the player-manager of the west Donegal side.
Cassidy starred in the final as Gaoth Dobhair won the All-Ireland when they defeated An Rinn 1-16 to 0-07 while Fanad beat Oileán Árainn after extra-time in the finals at An Rinn, Waterford.
A number of sides are under new management who will get their first slice of action in the competition, with Tony Boyle’s return as the Dungloe manager seeing him take the Rosses side to an away trip with the Donegal SFC champions, Glenswilly.
Liam Ward’s Glenfin face a testing away tie at Kilcar, who have Rory Gallagher aboard their management team.
There are two preliminary round games with Downings at home to Termon and St Naul’s hosting Naomh Columba.
The county finals of the 2014 Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta will be held at The Banks, hosted by the Naomh Muire club.
