Community honours Letterkenny teacher, author and historian Niall McGinley

A LARGE crowd gathered at Cathedral Square in Letterkenny on Saturday for the unveiling of a commemorative bench honouring local teacher, author and historian Niall McGinley.

The bench, commissioned by the Letterkenny Community Heritage Group and crafted by Tony McCaul of Pearse Road, was unveiled by Don Stevenson on behalf of his friend and colleague, Niall.

The tribute recognises Niall’s lifelong dedication to preserving the history and heritage of the area, as well as his support for local groups and students.

The occasion celebrated Niall’s passion for education, history and community.

Niall, a published author and former secondary school teacher, comes from a distinguished family with deep ties to Donegal history.

Thanks were extended to Niall and his family, Monsignor Kevin Gillespie, local councillors, the gardaí, Letterkenny Tidy Towns, and the council team for helping make the event possible.
