A joint bid by three local community groups for funding to purchase a mobility bus has been successful.
The Department of Rural and Community Development has awarded €62,362 to the Milford, Fanad and Rosguill areas.
A funding application was jointly lodged by Milford and District Resource Centre, Mevagh Family Resource Centre and the Swilly-Mulroy Community Health Forum.
The money will result in a shared community mobility bus which will service the entire district. The groups hope to have the vehicle on the road by early 2023.
Manager of Milford Resource Centre Declan Meehan said the specially adapted bus will make a considerable difference to the lives of many people.
“Transport for people with mobility issues is a constant problem and obstacle in our community and the lack of appropriate transport in our locality prevents people from participating in ordinary day-to-day tasks such as attending health appointments, community groups and support groups.
“We have been working on this application for some time while also highlighting the issues faced by people locally such as our MS Support Group. We are delighted to receive this news as we know that once up and running this mobility bus will make a huge impact on people’s lives,” he added.
