A new song and music video created by the children of Lurgybrack NS song writing club, which celebrates uniqueness and the power of togetherness, was be released yesterday as part of the Cruinniú na nÓg 2025 initiative.
Entitled ‘Kaleidoscope’ the song is the brainchild of teacher Bri Carr, 6th class student Matthew Finney and club members in 2nd-6th class at the school and was made possible thanks to funding from Creative Ireland.
Describing the meaning behind ‘Kaleidoscope’, Bri says, “The idea was to ensure that the youth voice was reflected throughout and paramount to our thinking and each child gave an input, no matter how small. Everyone is unique; their ‘colour’ beautiful, worthy and necessary. When those colours are mixed together, it produces a kaleidoscope of rays, representing the unique nature of each child, marking Cruinnú na nÓg on Saturday in a truly colourful, youthful way.”
She also took time to praise the work ethic of the children.
“The children gave up lunchtimes and stayed after school on five afternoons to write and perfect their song, such was the dedication to the project. Everyone was delighted to work with Tommy Conway in Full Tilt Studios to record the audio with myself on keyboards, Matthew Finney on guitar and Jack Whethers on banjo. Every child involved deserves the best possible credit and recognition for all their hard work in making this possible.”
“We filmed the video in various locations; Lurgybrack School, Lurgybrack Open Farm, and even at children’s homes and on holidays. This was done in order to ensure that all children involved could be included. Former pupil Dean Murray, currently a 2nd year student at St Eunan’s College produced our CD and PR photo.”
