THIS weekend rising stars of the Indie music scene, Color//Sound will visit what has become their second home, thanks to their Donegal native lead vocalist, to play two prestigious gigs in the west of the county.
Dublin-based band Color//Sound are no strangers to Donegal having performed in Letterkenny on several occasions and, more recently, played at the Swell Festival on Arranmore during the recent Earagail Arts Festival last month.
This weekend Letterkenny native Brendie McGlynn (lead vocals/guitar) and his band members Oisin Leahy Furlong (bass/Vocals), Ben Roe (drums) and Steven McCann (lead guitar/vocals) headline Clubeo, the monthly singer’s club at Leo’s Tavern in Meenaleck, tonight (Friday) before they return to Arranmore to play at the third annual AranMojo Festival on Saturday.
Brendie said the band is very excited about playing Clubeo, which is hosted by Moya Brennan and Raidio na Gaeltachta broadcaster Dónall Mac Ruairí.
He said: “I’ve heard about the club ever since it started; so many friends of mine have performed there and I’ve tried to get down there myself a few times. So when we were approached and asked if we would like to headline this month’s Clubeo, it couldn’t come at a better time as we were coming up for AranMojo anyway.”
After their Clubeo gig the band will be staying in Dunlewey’s popular Errigal Hostel, Brendie’s perfect excuse to show his band mates the area.
“I’ve been trying to take the lads out to West Donegal for ages, so even if we can’t get up Errigal at the weekend, hopefully I can show them around a bit anyway.”
The monthly Clubeo at Leo’s Tavern, Meenaleck, Crolly, kicks off at 9pm on Friday, August 16, while tickets for the AranMojo Festival, hosted by Donegal band Mojo Gogo, may still be available from www.aranmojofestival.com.
