Cold snap expected to lift after the weekend -Met Éireann

THE weather is to remain blustery today and tomorrow, but the current cold snap is expected to lift after the weekend.

Donegal is one of the few counties excluded from the Status Orange low temperature and ice warning that stretches across 19 counties.

The county still remains under a Status Yellow warning. Temperatures are to remain very cold today and tomorrow, with severe frosts and icy stretches expected, with temperatures expected to reach below -3.

Brandon Creagh is a forecaster with Met Éireann. He told the Donegal News that an expected northerly airflow could cause scattered sleet and snow showers that will give some accumulations, especially on high ground.

Mr Creagh said that coastal counties, especially Donegal “will get the brunt of these blustery winds” and that it will be “much of the same” right through Friday.

Looking beyond the weekend Met Éireann said a change is on the way, with the cold snap expected to lift after the weekend as a band of low pressure is expected to push up from the south. Although Mr Creagh added that there is still some “uncertainty” around Sunday.
