By Dionne Meehan

Met Éireann has issued a moderate yellow weather warning for Donegal as temperatures are expected to plummet this evening.

With very cold temperatures likely to fall below -3 in many areas, frost and ice will cause hazardous travelling conditions.

This weather warning comes into effect this evening at 6pm and it is expected to remain in place until Friday, December 1 at 12pm.

All Donegal Winter Maintenance designated gritting routes will be gritted from 6 am this morning.

It will remain cold and dry tonight, and widespread frost, mist and fog is expected. Scattered showers may turn wintery in some areas.

Tomorrow morning, the first day of the meteorological winter, will see cold and mainly dry, sunny spells.

Temperatures will reach highs of 3 to 6 degrees with light to moderate northwesterly breezes.
