THREE teams from Donegal are leading the way for Ireland this week, having signed up to take part in the second ever EUROPE CODE WEEK which takes place from October 11 to 18.
The event is taking place across Europe and St Eunan’s College Computer Club from Letterkenny, Youth Reach in Buncrana and Ballinamore Coderdojo have all registered events.
The aim of the week is to connect individuals, groups and companies interested in coding in a fun and sociable way.
Within Ireland, EU CODE WEEK is an opportunity to confirm the country’s position as the coding hub of Europe, thereby encouraging further creation of IT opportunities and careers for our young people.
In 2013, Ireland took gold for their contribution to EUROPE CODE WEEK with 150 events happening in 14 counties and an estimated 155,000 people involved.
By the end of EU Code Week last year, of the 25 European countries taking part, Ireland had taken the title of ‘DIGITAL Trailblazer’ for Europe with participation levels beyond the organisers’ wildest dreams. This year, organisers are hoping to have equally high participation levels and full listings of all events are available at www.events.codeweek.eu.
It’s still not too late to get involved and organisers are calling on all schools, CoderDojo clubs and scratch teams as well as computer clubs and workplaces to join them during the week.
You can get involved by running an event, host an exhibition or simply get together to have fun coding and discussing process throughout the week.
