RETIRED Garda Sergeant Mark Traynor, with 37 years of service in roads policing, has sounded the alarm over the rampant increase in cocaine use gripping Donegal, and the surge in motorists driving under the influence.
Mr Traynor is calling on authorities to particularly target Transition Year students to “hammer home” the message that they can kill their friends by driving after taking the Class-A stimulant drug.
“Years ago it was all alcohol based but now you have people who are taking drugs and they’re of the opinion it’s safe to do that. There’s external or obvious signs that they’re under the influence of an intoxicant,” he said.
