THE Coastguard helicopter was tasked by Malin Head to just south of Buncrana this lunchtime after a member of the public, out golfing, reported seeing what they thought was a man falling into the water near Carrickcullion rocks.
Rescue 118 flew low up and down Lough Swilly between Fahan and Buncrana searching at around 2 pm scanning the water for any evidence of a person in the water.
Lough Swilly RNLI were also tasked to the scene.
The Sikorsky helicopter returned to their Sligo base after nothing was found.
A spokesperson for Malin Head Coastguard station said “better safe than sorry”.
