CLOSE to €1 million has been announced in the lastest round of Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) funding. Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has announced €908,516 in funding for repairs and upgrades to roads and lanes leading to people’s homes across the county.
This funding is on top of the €884,000 from earlier this year that went to fix 56 stretches of roads and laneways.
Commenting on the funding, Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh said: “This kind of investment will make a big difference everyday of people’s lives. Dozens of roads, boreens and lanes in rural parts of the county have been fixed up in the last year or so since the Local Improvement Scheme was revived after eight years. This new funding boost will make a huge and visible change for local communities in Donegal.”
“Many people who use lanes and small roads up to the gates of their houses and farms had no access to financial support to keep them at a decent standard. This fund changes that.”
Minister McHugh added: “This additional funding is part of a national pot of €9.8million to supplement what has already been given out – Donegal is getting almost a 10th of the total in this latest round. Fixing these roads is vital and with increasing spend like this it shows how the Government is helping to improve people’s quality of life.”
