Close encounter of the alien kind over Donegal?

A UFO or a trick of the light? One Letterkenny stargazer is convinced what they saw was out of this world and has reported their sighting as being an unidentified flying object. This image was taken on February 1 in the night sky over Letterkenny.

THE truth is out there – in the skies over Letterkenny.

That is according to one eagle-eyed observer who has reported spotting a UFO over the town recently.

Details of the incident were relayed to an online conspiracy theory website over the weekend.

According to its own web page, www.conspiracyboi.wordpress.com exists to “bring you the truth of this reality”.

Whether Donegal did experience a brush with aliens on the morning of February 1 remains to be seen but according to the spotter, what they saw was not of this world.

“After leaving work at approximately 1am on the night of the super blue moon, I took a few pics and only noticed after viewing the photos a strange green coloured object followed by six smaller objects moving in formation across the sky,” they reported.

According to the spotter, the objects featured a patterned surface and were moving in a straight line path.

Sceptics may dismiss ufology as a hobby for the tinfoil hat brigade, but it is not the first time there has been a sighting in Donegal.

On August 24 2016 a ‘black triangle sighting’ was flagged up through the same website.

On that occasion the stargazer reported waking early to photograph the sunrise over rural Donegal. They say the black triangular object appeared in a photo captured on their iPhone but that it was nowhere to be seen in footage taken before or immediately afterwards.

Another unidentified object captured on an iPhone. The photo was taken during an early morning attempt to record the sunrise over rural Donegal on August 24 2016.

“I couldn’t understand how pics immediately before and after photo didn’t have a huge black triangle apparently hovering in the sky. Was in shock for the rest of the day,” they added.

A third sighting from Donegal was in 2011 but was not reported until five years later.

It took place at Carrigans on October 21 2011 and centres on a “triangular UFO with red lights at each point and a row of red and orange lights”.

It was completely silent, according to the spotter, and had a “glass dome underneath with molten liquid or flames churning around inside”.

“It just kept moving in a straight line until it went out of sight behind some trees in the skyline,” the report says.

The Donegal News asked the Irish Aviation Authority if they were aware of any aircraft over Donegal on February 1 that may have been mistaken for a UFO.

A spokesperson said they could not supply information on the movements of individual aircraft but that its air traffic control staff had “never recorded an unidentified flying object”.
