FALCARRAGH Councillor Michael McClafferty has been named as the new Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District.
Cllr McClafferty who served as Leas Cathaoirleach of the District for the past year will now take over the role from Cllr Anthony Molloy.
Cllr McClafferty was elected as Cathaoirleach at Tuesday’s meeting of the Glenties Municipal District following a heated debate.
Cllr Michael Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig was also nominated for the position but the issue went to a vote which Cllr McClafferty won with four votes to two.
In the past, Cllr McClafferty has been vocal around all issues impacting local people including deer culling, littering and dog fouling and water issues.
