FALCARRAGH Councillor Michael McClafferty has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of the Glenties Municipal District.
Cllr McClafferty who served as Leas Cathaoirleach of the MD for the past year will now take over the role from Cllr Anthony Molloy.
Cllr McClafferty was elected as Cathaoirleach at Tuesday’s meeting of the Glenties Municipal District following a heated debate.
Cllr Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig was also nominated for the position but the issue went to a vote which Cllr McClafferty won with four votes to two.
In the past, Cllr McClafferty has been vocal around all issues impacting local people including deer culling, littering and dog fouling and water issues.
Speaking about his new role, Cllr McClafferty said he aims to continue working hard to support his local constituents.
“I am both honoured and delighted to have been selected as the new Cathaoirleach of Glenties Municipal District.
“During my time as Cathaoirleach, I aim to do as I have always done as a Councillor and serve my constituents as best as I possibly can.
“I aim to make sure that the voices and needs of local people are supported and addressed.
“I would like to thank my colleagues for trusting and supporting me.
“I look forward to the year ahead in my new role and acting on behalf of the constituents of the Glenties Municipal area,” said Cllr McClafferty.
