Cllr McBrearty asks to be arrested at County House

THERE was considerable drama on the sidelines of Donegal County Council’s Annual General Meeting this afternoon which culminated in Raphoe-based Cllr Frank McBrearty asking two Garda Detectives to arrest him.

Earlier, proceedings at the AGM were adjourned twice, the second time after Cllr McBrearty accused the new Cathaoirleach of the council, Cllr Niamh Kennedy, of being a liar.

“Hell will freeze over before I apologise to her for calling her a liar,” Cllr McBrearty told the Donegal News.

The Independent councillor is calling into question how positions within the council are decided.

It’s understood that the Detectives asked Cllr McBrearty to calm down after declining his invitation to make an arrest.
