Climber rescued at Lough Salt

THE coastguard helicopter airlifted a woman to Letterkenny General Hospital yesterday afternoon after she fell and injured herself while climbing on Lough Salt Mountain.

The woman, who is in her early forties is believed to have sustained a broken ankle. She was one of a party of seven on a visit to the county to enjoying the challenging mountain climb.

Donegal Mountain Rescue service were called to assist the woman and it was they who alerted Malin Head Coastguard of the need for a helicopter to airlift the woman to hospital.

The climbing party were close to the summit when the accident happened at around 2 pm. The climbers rang 999 and were put through to Milford Garda Station who in turn put them through to the mountain rescue team.

Mr Brian Murray, PRO for Donegal Mountain Rescue said they took the decision to call out the helicopter in order to airlift the lady to LGH.
