Clerical changes announced as Mgr Dan Carr to retire

Bishop Alan McGuckian, SJ, has announced a number of clerical changes in the Raphoe Diocese. 

Monsignor Dan Carr has announced his retirement as the parish priest in St Johnston.

Mgr Carr has been the Parish Priest in St Johnston for over 30 years.

From the weekend of October 14/15, the St Johnston parish will be jointly administered by Fr Martin Cunningham and Fr Philip Kemmy as Pastors in Solidum, with Fr Cunningham as the Moderator.

Fr Cunningham will look after the schedule and arrangements for funerals and weddings while Fr Kemmy will take car of administration, the Finance Committee and the Parish Pastoral Council as the sacrament of Baptism.

Mgr Carr will continue to live in the parish as Pastor Emeritus.

Fr Charlie Byrne, in addition to his role as parish priest as Meevagh, has been confirmed as the administrator of the Clonvadaddog parish.

From the weekend of October 14/15 , Fr Anthony Briody, formerly curate in the Parish of Stranorlar, will be the new curate in Clonvadaddog.

Fr Pat McGarvey, the outgoing parish priest, is on sabbatical.

Fr Vincent Finnegan OFM, on loan from the Franciscan Order, has been appointed as a curate for the Stranorlar parish, effective from the weekend of October 14/15.

Bishop McGuckian thanked all the clergy who have accepted their new appointments and “wishes every blessing to Mgr. Dan Carr on his retirement.”
