Clannad to receive Freedom of Donegal at council reception

THE internationally renowned, award winning group Clannad will receive the Freedom of Donegal at a special reception given by Donegal County Council tomorrow at 3 pm.

They will be presented with a County Badge and Scroll by Cathaoirleach Cllr Martin Harley.

During the reception, CEO John McLaughlin will speak about the award while tributes will be also be paid by representatives of each political party.

Members of the band will then speak before they sign the distinguished visitors book.

Clannad will also get the chance to speak at the event followed by the signing of the distinguished visitors’ book.

Lead singer Moya Brennanis the current Donegal Person of the Year.

The band were formed back in 1970 and have achieved world-wide acclaim for their distinctive sound leading to various winning numerous awards including the Ivor Novello Award, a BAFTA and a Grammy.

Tonight at 7 pm at County House in Lifford a Civic

Reception will be held to honour former Chair of Relay for Life, Robert O’Connor who stepped down after eleven years at the helm.

Special Olympian Vicki McGill will also be honoured having won a Gold Medal in basketball in the 2023 Special Olympics.
