Separately, on Friday Revenue officers in Galway City seized 10,800 cigarettes and 2.7kgs tobacco. The seized tobacco products were branded ‘Marlboro’, ‘Winston’, ‘Golden Virginia’ and ‘Old Holborn’. A Lithuanian woman in her twenties was questioned at the scene.

The combined estimated retail value of the contraband tobacco products is €16,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €12,680. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
