FIANNA FÁIL candidate Ciaran Brogan has retained his seat on Donegal County Council.
His election was confirmed this evening following a second recount of the votes in the Letterkenny LEA.
Fine Gael Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh has also been elected. As the count continues, Cllr Donal Coyle and Mary T Sweeney are battling for the final seat.
Speaking to the Donegal News at the count centre, Cllr Brogan said he is absolutely delighted.
“I said from the outset it is great to be on the team and it is great to be picked.
“I am very happy.
“I am also delighted for Cllr Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly and his family.
“I think he did very well.
“Hopefully now Donal Coyle will hang on as well and take that third seat. ,” he said.
Working hard throughout his campaign, Cllr Brogan expressed his gratitude to his team and his family.
“I always say it is a privilege being the candidate but it is your team that does a huge amount of the work.
“I have a great, loyal team behind me for a long time.
“I am very, very happy with the vote and I am very happy I will be returning to Donegal County Council to serve the people of Letterkenny,” he said.
During the election canvas, Cllr Brogan said some of the issues that were discussed were national issues.
“What we need to do is address the issues we can control by working together on Donegal County Council and do that as best we can.
“I do believe we will have enough people there who want to do the right thing for Donegal and its people,” he concluded.
