Churchill man in court over shooting-related charges

THE case of a Churchill man charged with assault causing harm during a dispute with a neighbour has been adjourned.
Patrick J Friel (46) of Ballinakillew was before Judge Paul Kelly on two charges which occurred at the same address on January 3.

The first charge is of a Section 3 assault under the Non Fatal Offences Against The Persons Act. The second is that he did discharge a firearm being reckless as to whether any person was injured or not contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Offences Weapons Act 1990.

At this morning’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court Inspector John O’Toole made an application for an adjournment on behalf of the State.

He told Judge Kelly that they were still seeking directions from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Judge Kelly adjourned the case to April 13 for directions.
