THE Jubilee Year of Hope was brought to a fitting close as the parish of Urney and Castlefinn came together on New Year’s Eve for a fundraising church to church walk.
Despite a cold and crisp start to the day, conditions improved by midday as the frost cleared, allowing walkers to gather at St Mary’s Church in Castlefinn to begin the journey. A lively group turned out, with participants of all ages, and even a dog or two, taking part.
The walk followed the greenway from Castlefinn to Cloghfin before crossing the main road to Clady and continuing on to St Columba’s Church in Doneyloop.
On arrival, walkers were warmly welcomed with light refreshments.
Sincere thanks was extended to everyone who took part and contributed on the day, as well as to Gerard Holmes for sponsoring transport, Ballyholey Farm Shop for providing fruit, Aidan and Collette for stewarding, Mary Louise and her clan for their help with refreshments, and Fr Ciarán Hegarty, who concluded the event with a vote of thanks and a blessing.
The walk proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable and sociable parish occasion, and organisers hope it will become an annual event, weather permitting.
