Church gate collection for refurbishment plans at Ards Friary

A CHURCH gate collection will take place throughout Donegal this weekend to aid the refurbishment of the home of the Capuchin Friars at Ards Friary in Creeslough.

Inspired by the Pope’s message in Laudato Si, the Capuchin Friars organically farm the land and work with the natural beauty of the site on which the Friary is built.

And now, they feel it is the right time to carry out the next phase of their plan.

They are hoping to refurbish their house to convert it into a place that is environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and generally fit-for-purpose in present day circumstances.

This updating includes installing a reed-bed sewage system, renovating the rooms and overhauling the heating system.

Because of this, the Capuchin Friars are appealing to the generosity of the community around them.

“Our first step in seeking help is to ask people to support the church-gate appeal throughout Donegal, which will take place this Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25,” a spokesperson said.

There will be an opportunity to donate directly to the Friary account by using the QR code that is on the poster near the collection point at the church gate.
