EVEN if she’s not red, it’s time to get her out of the shed for the Christmas Lights Tractor Run!
It is that time of year again when tractors are being decorated instead of trees, lights are being untangled and people are digging deep for a very worthy cause.
All roads lead to Milford Retail Park on December 10 where registration for the tractor run is set to kick off at 4 o’ clock.
The registration fee per tractor is €20.
Tractors will then light up and set off for 5 o’ clock, parading through Kerrykeel, Rosnakill, Tamney and across the bridge through Carrigart.
Finishing up at The Boardwalk Bar and Restaurant, a raffle will take place followed by refreshments afterwards.
Tickets for the raffle can be purchased on the day for €5 and there are some amazing prizes up for grabs.
First prize is a kid’s petrol go kart worth €1500 sponsored by Motorworld, second prize is 20x40kg smokeless coal, third prize is a Razor S85 Electric Scooter sponsored by LK Bikes and fourth prize is a large food hamper.
This year the Christmas Lights Tractor Run is being held in aid of St Bernadette’s School.
St. Bernadette’s is a special school which has been open for the past 40 years on College Farm Road, Letterkenny.
Set up for children with a diagnosis of a Mild General Learning Difficulty, they help children from all over Donegal complete the primary school curriculum, the Junior Cycle Level 2 programme for Junior Cycle students who are between the ages of 13 and 16-years-old and a school leavers’ programme, which also prepares students for their future adult education, for those between the ages of 16 and 18-years-old.
With costs in the school skyrocketing, they rely heavily on their annual Christmas draw and other fundraising events to keep their doors open.
Over the years, St Bernadette’s School has been lucky enough to acquire a number of school buses along with a dedicated team of staff, all who are equipped with a bus license.
Between sporting events (swimming, football, basketball, tennis, gymnastics), work experience and social outings, the students at St Bernadette’s School get around!
However, one thing the school doesn’t have is a wheelchair accessible bus.
Despite the cost associated with these buses being quite steep, a spokesperson from St Bernadette’s School said they would appreciate “any help” towards reaching their target.
