CHILDREN in Donegal have been prescribed anti-depressants on more than 1,000 occasions over the past ten years, according to new figures.
The numbers come to light amid a scandal that has engulfed the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).
A major report was published in January and to date 240 families have received apologies from the HSE over the sub-standard care, including the prescribing of excessive medications to children.
According to statistics released under the Freedom of Information Act, between 2012 and 2021 a total of 340 children aged 11 and younger were issued with a prescription for anti-depressants.
In the 12 to 15 years age bracket the figure stood at 936 young people.
