ONCE again, the annual New Year’s Day charity swim in Fanad proved a great success with large numbers taking a dip in the cold waters to welcome in the new year.
Cheques have been presented to the two benefitting charities, crowning another successful charity event with €6,384 raised.
Míle buíochas do gach duine a chabhraigh ar dhóigh ar bith.
The money will be divided between Pieta House and The Don Bosco Educational Projects in South Africa.
The swim has been going strong for over 25 years and has helped raise much needed funds for both local charities as well as the Don Bosco Educational Projects in Johannesburg, South Africa, under the direction of Sr Margaret Sweeney (Salesian Sister).
The Don Bosco Educational Projects help by educating children who are so often marginalised, including migrants, refugees and orphans, who may not have the necessary documentation to attend government schools. The swim money goes towards feeding, clothing and educating the most vulnerable.
Pieta house is Ireland’s suicide prevention charity, offering free professional, confidential support for people in suicidal crisis, those self-harming and those bereaved by suicide, through therapy, a 24/7 helpline, and text service, focusing on building resilience and providing hope.
