Checkpoints to take place this Bank Holiday weekend

High visibility patrols and checkpoints will be in operation across Donegal this October bank Holiday weekend, gardaí have warned.

Gardaí are appealing to people to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. They are also calling on drivers to slow down and for everyone in a vehicle to ensure they wear their seatbelt.

“The results of drink/drug driving and/or speed can be devastating. Leave your mobile phone well out of reach when driving. Never take unnecessary risks on the roads.”

With the clocks go back one hour on Sunday, gardaí are urging all pedestrians and cyclists to please wear a hi-vis vest if they are out early in the morning or in the evening time.

“Ensure that you are highly visible to drivers at all times. There are hi-vis vests available at Letterkenny Garda Station should anyone wish to collect one.

“Halloween is fast approaching. Please do not hesitate to contact gardaí if you need our assistance in the run up to Halloween because of anti-social behaviour in your area or for any other reason. Contact Gardaí on a 24/7 basis at Letterkenny Garda Station on (074) 9167100, at Buncrana Garda Station on (074) 9320540, at Milford Garda Station on (074) 9153060 or at Ballyshannon Garda Station on (071) 9858530. Always call 999 or 112 in the case of an emergency.”
