A LIFFORD man, who was left fighting for his life after a brutal attack in his home, is said to be in excellent spirits after undergoing what is hopefully his last major surgical operation.
Charles Dooher, 26, sustained catastrophic injuries following the attack by five heavily armed and masked men on January 20.
He was airlifted to Belfast Victoria Hospital in the wake of the violent assault, where he has been undergoing treatment for serious injuries since.
Yesterday, Mr Dooher underwent further surgery in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Following this, the Dooher family were advised by medical consultants that a protective plate has now been successfully fitted to Mr Dooher’s head and the operation appears to have been completed without complication.
In a statement from Madden & Finucane Solicitors, Mr Dooher was said to be sitting up in his hospital bed, in excellent spirits and chatting to his family following surgery.
“The Dooher family now look forward to Charles finally coming home to Donegal,” a spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, three months on from the attack, the Dooher family have renewed their calls for information.
“The family have reiterated their call to the public on both sides of the border for any information to be passed to An Garda Síochána at Lifford Garda Station, the PSNI at Maydown, or if they prefer in the first instance, to Madden & Finucane Solicitors in Derry or Belfast on 028 9023 8007,” a spokesperson continued.
“They also would like to thank the very many persons on both sides of the border who have provided them with tremendous support and assistance over the last three months.”
