Whether or not you happen to be a quiz-buff, you are welcome to keep Wednesday night, November 1 free in your diary to help support two local charities.
The charity quiz night is being held in memory of Letterkenny man Kieran McGrath. It’s being organised by local quiz enthusiast Gerry McKeever who, along with Kieran, dominated the table quiz scene around the county for so many years.
Gerry and Kieran built up a great friendship during that time and the popular Letterkenny barber said organising the charity quiz night was his way of remembering someone whose passing last March impacted on so many.
“Our team started out with myself and Kieran along with Patsy James (RIP) and Pierce McMenamin,” Gerry said.
“Over the years, there were others too, like Bobby McDaid and Manus McElwaine and we’d a good team. We won Ulster titles and got to the All-Irelands.
“To be honest I just piggy-backed on Kieran. He was that good”.
Gerry reckons himself and Kieran would have regularly attended quizzes over 17 years, sometimes taking part in three or four quizzes a week.
“That amounts to something like 2,500 quizzes overall,” he points out.
The charity quiz on November 1 will be held in Letterkenny’s Station House Hotel and will get underway at 9.45pm.
The cost is €10 per person, or €40 per table and there will be a raffle for prizes on the night.
“It would be great to see a big crowd,” Gerry added.
“In the meantime, if anyone wants to drop any prizes into me in the barbers for the raffle, it would be very much appreciated.”
Proceeds from the event will go to Pieta House and Sheephaven Search and Recovery.
