THE people of Inishowen and beyond will come together this Saturday night for a charity dance in memory of baby Annie McDaid.
The daughter of Buncrana couple Phelim and Aine McDaid, little Annie passed away aged just nine days.
While still in the womb, Annie was diagnosed with a diaphragmatic hernia, an abnormality that led to some of her organs being pushed up into her chest.
Despite the predictions of some medics, Annie battled her way into the world and was born on September 8 2017.
For nine days Phelim, Aine and their other three children watched in amazement as she fought for life.
Sadly though she passed away on September 17.
During her short life Annie spent time in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit PICU) in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Her family was able to stay at Ronald McDonald House, a volunteer-run unit that provides accommodation for families who have a little loved one seriously ill in Crumlin Hospital.
To thank both the hospital and the team at Ronald McDonald House, Annie parents have organised a fundraiser in The Plaza, Buncrana.
“PICU One and Ronald McDonald House were there when we needed them,” Aine said.
“Ronald McDonald House was like a home away from home for us and a place where our three children and our parents were able to come and stay. It is a great place to have and to think that it is all done voluntary is just amazing.”
Music this Saturday night is by Kieran McAree and things kick off at 10pm with dancing until midnight and a disco afterwards. Admission is €10.
A gofundme.com page has also been set up for those unable to make Saturday night’s event. Simply go to www.gofundme.com and search for ‘In Memory of Baby Annie McDaid’.
