IMPROVEMENTS proposed for the Oliver Plunkett Road disabled parking space at July’s Letterkenny/Milford MD meeting has led to a letter from a member of the public, to the Donegal News, suggesting further improvements.
Two weeks ago Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh proposed that the disabled parking bay at Oliver Plunkett Road be rendered useless because there were no drop kerbs there.
“You have to go out and walk up the road to get access further up,” he told the meeting.
Seconding the motion Cllr Donal Coyle said that a disabled parking bay without drop kerbs rendered it “not fit for purpose”.
Roads engineer David McIlwaine said it would be necessary to drop the footpath and suggested they swap it with the bus stop.
“Swap them around which would be a lot less work,” Mr McIlwaine said.
In a letter to the Editor of the Donegal this week, Rose Sheridan stated: “In relation to to the proposed upgrade of the disabled parking space on Oliver Plunkett Road which is necessary, two other parking spaces for the public (30 minute limit) could be created where the bus stop currently is located.
“This would be appreciated by the businesses in the area who need to carry stock into their shops and by the apartment occupiers above who find it difficult to get their possessions or shopping into their homes, Ms Sheridan wrote.
