Championship draw today

Glenswilly celebrate winning the 2011 Donegal SFC title. They will learn their 2012 opponents this afternoon.

THE draws for the preliminary and first round of each championship will take place this afternoon from 3.30pm in the Raidio na Gaeltachta studios in Derrybeg.

Defending senior champions Glenswilly are one of two seeded side’s – 2010 champions Naomh Conaill being the other – in the senior draw, meaning they cannot meet in the one preliminary round tie nor the first round proper.

They are joined by fifteen other sides in a bumper Senior Championship draw that also includes last year’s beaten finalists St. Michael’s, the Intermediate champions St. Naul’s, St. Eunan’s, Gaoth Dobhair, Fanad Gaels, Cloughaneely, Ardara, Kilcar, Killybegs, Four Masters, Dungloe, Malin, Bundoran, Glenfin and Sean MacCumhaill’s.

Last week, Glenfin were handed a reprieve at the county committee meeting when they were admitted back into the senior ranks having looked like they were heading down to Intermediate due to their League finish in 2011.

Ten teams are entered into the Intermediate draw, which will have two preliminary round matches.

Aodh Ruadh, Termon, Naomh Columba, Naomh Brid, Naomh Mhuire, Buncrana, Naomh Colmcille, Burt, Carndonagh and Urris complete the line-up for the Intermediate Championship.

There will be 11 teams starting out in the Junior ‘A’ Championship, with three preliminary rounds due to take place. The teams entered are Downings, Milford, Letterkenny Gaels, Red Hugh’s, Robert Emmet’s, Muff, Convoy, Moville, Naomh Ultan, Na Rossa and Lifford.

Meanwhile, there will be eighteen teams in the draw for the Junior ‘B’ Championship, with Glenfin, Sean MacCumhaill’s, Naomh Conaill, St. Michael’s, Glenswilly, St. Eunan’s, Pettigo, Ardara, Downings, Milford, Letterkenny Gaels, Red Hugh’s, Robert Emmet’s, Muff, Convoy, Moville, Naomh Ultan, Na Rossa and Lifford.

Elsewhere, there will be 20 teams entered into the U21 ‘A’ Championship draw which includes the seventeen clubs entered into the Senior Championship draw along with last year’s U21 ‘B’ Champions Letterkenny Gaels, Milford and Naomh Mhuire.

There will be 15 teams in the U21 ‘B’ draw – Aodh Ruadh, Termon, Naomh Columba, Naomh Brid, Buncrana, Naomh Colmcille, Downings, Red Hugh’s, Robert Emmet’s, Convoy, Moville, Carndonagh, Urris, Lifford and Burt.
